May moisture drought persists in Iowa crops

The May weather logged low rainfall with only 1.37 inches for the month and 5.08 inches year to date, about 4 inches below normal for the period. Ronald Baack Foils Car Thieves Arriving Home

Ronald Baack of 801 1st St SE foiled thieves who were stripping his 1955 Chevrolet early Sunday. He was given a ride home by friends around 2 p.m. and found suspects attempting to remove hubcaps, chrome from headlights, air filter, trunk contents, spare tire, wheel and jack. One hubcap remained in the street as the getaway car fled north.

Five Scouts to Camp at Philmont Ranch

Five Boy Scouts from Ply mouth county with Hinton Le Mars Kingsley and Alton Si oux Center join Prairie Gold Area council on a 12 day Philmont expedition in New Mexico. The group of 51 Explorers Senior Scouts and leaders departs June 2 by bus and car. Philmont marks its 25th anniversary with 127000 acres of mountains on the Sangre de Cristo Range. The journey includes camping cooking gold panning fossil digging and exploring Indian cliff dwellings. After Philmont the contingent returns via Colorado Springs and spends a night at Lowry Air Force Base in Denver.

Wells Dairy plant to begin operation in Le Mars

A modern Wells Blue Bunny milk processing plant in Le Mars prepares to start Wednesday. Construction began in 1962 and the facility features six roof tanks, a short time pasteurizer handling 25 000 pounds per hour, and a computerized control board to halt the line if errors occur. The plant aims to deliver efficient service to Wells Dairy customers with up-to-date equipment and centralized storage before truck delivery.
