Officials Shortage Persists in Iowa High School Sports
Iowa High School Athletic Association notes a decline in participating schools from over 900 to just over 500, with fewer contests. Officials cite low youth participation, pay concerns, and abuse as factors, while emphasizing passion for athletics and youth. Registration, exams, and progressive ratings shape official status, with about 2,200 basketball and 1,580 football registrants this year.
