Floyd Valley hospital farm drive seeks pledges for new Le Mars facility

Farm division workers from Floyd Valley hospital are calling area farmers for pledges toward a new Le Mars hospital project. The drive aims at 1.3 to 1.5 million dollars with about 80 staff contacting farmers and 50 braving snow for a Le Mars kickoff. Public drives in Remsen Marcus Merrill begin in January. The planned 45 to 50 bed hospital includes operating suites ICU and coronary units labor and delivery and an emergency area with labs radiology and pharmacy. The current hospital, bought in 1966 with a 300000 bond, has been deemed inadequate for future needs.

Akron gasoline truck destroyed by fire

A Standard tank wagon operated by Arden Finzen of Akron burned in a 12:30 a.m. Sunday blaze. Finzen suffered minor eyebrow burns as he attempted to fill the tank. firefighters from Akron Hawarden and Westfield put out the fire after a spark and explosion occurred while he tried to start the motor. The vehicle and part of the building were damaged.

Plymouth county board of supervisors planned to name a new county attorney in an afternoon session. County attorney William S. Sturges said he would confer Wednesday morning with the incoming appointee and assistant county attorney Richard Bauerly to review all pending matters.

Charter members from Plymouth county elected a board of directors on a short term basis until the 1973 annual meeting. Officers chosen include Dr Charles Lemke as president and Rev Arnold Imbrock as vice president with LaVerne Kurtz secretary and Arlan Beech treasurer. Accident injures 18 year old Amy Koopman in Kingsley

Amy Marie Koopman aged 18 of Kingsley remains in fair condition at Floyd Valley hospital after a noon Saturday crash on C-4 near the K-64 junction. She suffered a broken arm and severe facial lacerations when her eastbound Maverick crossed into the path of John L. Felts 38 of route 1 Le Mars in an IHC corn sheller. The Koopman car left the road into a south ditch. Felts’s vehicle totaled. Sheriff Ed Guntren investigated.

Parking in Red Owl lot aids Christmas shoppers in Le Mars

Mayor E R Scholer announced arrangements to allow off street parking in the Red Owl store lot during the remainder of the Christmas shopping season. The Le Mars city council arranged the use of 47 stalls in the lot for shopper parking during store hours in downtown Le Mars.
