Farm division workers from Floyd Valley hospital are calling area farmers for pledges toward a new Le Mars hospital project. The drive aims at 1.3 to 1.5 million dollars with about 80 staff contacting farmers and 50 braving snow for a Le Mars kickoff. Public drives in Remsen Marcus Merrill begin in January. The planned 45 to 50 bed hospital includes operating suites ICU and coronary units labor and delivery and an emergency area with labs radiology and pharmacy. A Standard tank wagon operated by Arden Finzen of Akron burned in a 12:30 a.m. Sunday blaze. Finzen suffered minor eyebrow burns as he attempted to fill the tank. firefighters from Akron Hawarden and Westfield put out the fire after a spark and explosion occurred while he tried to start the motor. The vehicle and part of the building were damaged.
Monday brings a mild high near 26 degrees after a sunny Sunday. Monday low edges above zero with a warming trend expected to last at least two days, with highs 35 to 40 and upper teens lows. Forecasters note fuel shortage relief and little chance of precipitation.
Sunday night fire fought by Ovens and Le Mars departments destroyed a garage and an early 1960s Chevrolet at Michael Brasfield’s farm two miles west of the Union church on C-44. Call came in about 9 pm.

Officers chosen include Dr Charles Lemke as president and Rev Arnold Imbrock as vice president with LaVerne Kurtz secretary and Arlan Beech treasurer. The board welcomed Howard Marty as staff member with duties starting January 2 1973 expanding open hours in Le Mars and other Plymouth county locations.
Amy Marie Koopman aged 18 of Kingsley remains in fair condition at Floyd Valley hospital after a noon Saturday crash on C-4 near the K-64 junction. She suffered a broken arm and severe facial lacerations when her eastbound Maverick crossed into the path of John L. Felts 38 of route 1 Le Mars in an IHC corn sheller. The Koopman car left the road into a south ditch. Felts’s vehicle totaled. Sheriff Ed Guntren investigated.
Birth notices report daughters born to Donald Reehr and wife in Le Mars on December 15, to Michael Brasfield and wife in Le Mars on December 16, and to Kenneth Ehrp and wife in Le Mars on December 16, plus a son born to Jonathon Wiltgen and wife in Sioux City on December 16.
Le Mars Planning Commission meets Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. in city hall. SIMPCO member Don Meisner will explain SIMPCO operations and how the two bodies can collaborate for Le Mars' benefit.
Le Mars Lions will host their annual Christmas Dinner Thursday evening at 6 30 in the Elks club basement with wives as special guests. Dinner chairman Dr Wayne Faber asks members to bring a white elephant gift. Reservations by Tuesday December 19 by calling 546 4818.
The Four Seasons cafe in Le Mars will close from December 23 through January 1. Owner Christine Wintefeld says the cafe will reopen Tuesday January 2. Le Mars Community junior high school pool manager Chuck Larsen reports hours this week for public swimming are Monday Wednesday and Friday from 7 to 10 p.m.
Mayor E R Scholer announced arrangements to allow off street parking in the Red Owl store lot during the remainder of the Christmas shopping season. The Le Mars city council arranged the use of 47 stalls in the lot for shopper parking during store hours in downtown Le Mars.
