USDA trims farm storage loan rules to curb on-farm capacity
The USDA announced changes to the farm storage and drying equipment loan program effective December 3, reducing loan size from 35 000 to 25 000 and raising interest to 50 cents per 100. Storage must equal one year of production, silos and concrete costs are restricted, and loan coverage excludes labor. The department cites easing storage needs due to rapid on-farm facility construction and rising wheat and feed grain exports.
