Snowmobile Rules Outline Local Street Restrictions

Snowmobile operators are reminded that machines may not be operated on restricted Le Mars streets including 12th St south, highway 75, highway 3 Plymouth St, Central Ave and two blocks around the Central Ave and Plymouth St business district. Off limits also cover shaded areas such as school yards, Westmar campus, the Floyd Valley hospital area at all times, and churches during occupancy hours. Designated areas are in Municipal and West Floyd parks. Tuesday night snowmobilers were seen on restricted streets, school yards and past the hospital.

City attorney Robert Roseberry explains the ordinance allows point-to-point snowmobile travel from a resident’s home to the city limits and back, but requires compliance with all other traffic rules and bans incidental operation on major streets. Ditch causes trio of crashes on Highway 60 near Le Mars

Three accidents occurred Tuesday morning within a mile and a half on Highway 60 north of Le Mars during heavy snowfall. A Gerritt Van Den Brink semi from Sheldon slid into a ditch after a vehicle-sight obstruction. two more vehicle spins followed as crews removed the rigs and closed the road. No serious injuries reported, trucks and car pulled from ditches, and the Tuesday Coffee league suspended bowling due to the storm.

Miss Mohnsen to present organ recital at historic Trinity Church

Rosalind E. Mohnsen, Westmar College music assistant professor, will play a recital Thursday at Trinity Church on Wall Street New York. The program includes works by Depre Vierene Messiaen Langlais and Widor on the 153 rank Aeolian Skinner organ. she directs Calvary United Methodist in Le Mars and plays bass with the Sioux City Symphony.

Mid-Sioux Industrial Development Program Approved

Mid Sioux Opportunity Inc Remsen has approval and funds to start an economic and industrial development program aimed at Plymouth Sioux Cherokee Ida and Lyon counties. Dennis Wilczek is hired to head the effort with Roman Galles housing director and Richard Thomson manpower specialist assisting. The staff will meet with local development committees to craft community specific goals and programs.

Ireton Man Burned Filling Propane Tank

Wendell Kruse of Ireton escaped serious injury after a flash fire at the Kay Dee Ranch in Sioux City while filling a propane tank. Officials believe a defective valve allowed gas to escape and ignite from the pilot light. Kruse suffered first and second degree burns on his body and some third degree burns on his face, and recuperates at his Ireton home.

Stored cars to be towed Friday for street cleaning

Le Mars police chief Jim Hoeck warned that cars left stored on streets will be towed Friday at the owner’s expense. Tow fees will range from $10 to $15. Stored vehicles block snowplows and could leave streets messy if warm spells are followed by freezing temperatures.

College student fined for intoxication and meat truck tampering

Sioux City Children Choir to Sing on Bowers Corner

The Sioux City children's choir directed by Rosemary Vondracek will perform in Le Mars this Saturday at 1 30 pm on the Bowers clothing street corner. The 65 member group from Sioux City grades three to seven has toured Sioux Citís Le Mars and Cherokee and was founded in 1959 to educate and encourage young choral singers in city parks and recreation programs.
