Le Mars Community junior high swimming pool will shut during Christmas vacation for repairs. Problems include improper drainage in the boys shower room attributed to Spitznager Partners Inc. and cracking areas at the pool bottom. Work hinges on a 3 year guarantee and requires draining the pool first.
Plymouth county supervisors display the county’s first revenue sharing check for the first half of 1972, amounting to 142,829 dollars. They plan to deposit in a separate trust fund with an audit trail, and discuss spending by resolution while noting Sioux county received more. The check follows revenue sharing legislation and compares local population figures from the 1970 census.
Plymouth County plans bridge inspections on all primary federal aid roads. Otto Engineering Co. will inspect about 760 bridges on a piece rate basis, with monthly billing from Feb 1. The Le Mars Community junior high music groups present a concert on Wednesday evening December 13 at 8 p.m. in the new junior high auditorium. The program features Christmas and other pieces by the junior high choruses girls glee and both A and B bands directed by Val Moeller Colleen Scholten and Dean Pelz. Admission is free and the public is invited.
Le Mars Community school board again retreated to executive session amid discussions of salary negotiations and who will form the negotiating team. Superintendent Vance Stead questioned the lack of public justification, while members cited openness in prior years. The board also approved a stringed orchestra program for grades four to six with an estimated first year cost of 5000 dollars.
Mr and Mrs Louis Meister sold the Anchor Inn in Kingsley to Perry Dean of Alcester effective December 1. The Meisters operated the cafe since 1938, with history including a wartime name change to Victory Cafe and reversion to Anchor Inn in 1945. Dean plans remodeling, with Charlene assisting and five children, and a grand opening scheduled later. The Meisters hosted a farewell party November 27.
Two Brunsville women were hospitalized after a two car crash on highway 3, 2:15 p.m. east of Akron. Marvy Klemme, 80, suffered severe facial lacerations as her head hit the windshield. Elizabeth Haage, 69, had bumps and bruises. The Hawarden driver, Arthur E. Davis, 72, crossed the center line, causing the collision with Herman Haage’s Plymouth. Davis was cited for failure to yield.
Le Mars resident Wayne Heimgartner aged 30 underwent surgery at Floyd Valley hospital after a 5 p m Saturday incident at his father Ruben Heimgartner s home in Elkhorn township The .22 automatic pistol discharged while being placed in a holster striking his right leg above the knee and lodging below the knee Authorities said Sheriff Ed Guntzen and state conservation officer Larry Ford investigated the accident and rabbit hunting had been underway at the time Continuous care followed the rabbit hunting incident.
All men of the St. John's American Lutheran church in Le Mars are asked to meet at the church this Thursday Dec 14 to decorate the outside of the parish house. Volunteers should dress warmly and meet at 9 a.m. The ALCW will serve lunch in the church basement.
The Gehlen music department will present its annual Christmas concert this Sunday December 17 at 7 30 p m in the Gehlen cafeteria featuring the high school band drill team and chorus plus junior high bands and choruses. Directors are Mike Brainerd and Diane Bode. The concert is open to the public with no admission charge.
