Bitter cold gives way to warming trend this week
After a weekend with many below zero hours, a warming trend arrives Monday with a high near 20 sure, while Tuesday drops back to the teens. A developing southwestern storm may bring snow and south winds. Skies are partly cloudy, low Monday night near zero. Friday’s high was 9 above with a 3 below low. Saturday 7 above, 12 below. Fuel problem cases as officials act in Iowa
Gov. Robert Ray announced after a meeting with Office of Emergency Preparedness officials, the Federal Power Commission, and the Interior Department that three steps are being taken to ease Iowa fuel oil shortages. Iowa to receive 77 million in federal revenue sharing funds
Iowa’s first year share of about 77 million will be retroactive to January 1 1972 with checks starting this year. The money is placed in a special trust and distributed to the state and local governments under a three factor formula based on population income and tax effort with most funds usable for property tax relief and not for education or matching federal funds. The local units receive their shares directly and must publish notices of expenditure.

Public swimming hours set for junior high pool week
Pool manager Chuck Larsen announced public swimming times for the week at the new junior high school swimming pool.
