Baker Lawrence Sanow Named Employee of the Month
Lawrence A. Sanow head baker at Vander Meer's bakery in Le Mars has been named the December Le Mars Chamber of Commerce employee of the month. He began 28 years ago as a cleanup man during high school, served four years in the armed forces, and now works under three generations of the Vander Meer family. He and wife Phyllis raise five children at 121 Second Ave. NW and attend St. James Catholic Church. He enjoys outdoor activities, coaches in the Le Mars Little League, and plans to stay in Le Mars until retirement.

Two men jailed to finish Plymouth drug sentences
Sheriff Ed Guntren took Jay Clark Christensen and William M. Slawson to Anamosa to complete Lycar sentences from a 1970 Plymouth county drug conviction. Bazaar raises over two thousand at Floyd Valley event
The Floyd Valley hospital auxiliary bazaar in the Eagles club basement netted close to 2300 despite bad weather. Chairman Mrs. Sandy Shrke noted it was smaller than past two day events and that price cuts helped move items. The group has donated 30,000 in equipment over five years and seeks continued support with memberships and next year’s co chairs named.

Bitter cold grips Le Mars with record subzero start
The region endured a brutal morning as Le Mars hit 19 below and Alta 20 below, defining early subzero temps for the season. Across the state record lows followed, with Cedar Rapids minus five, Spencer minus sixteen, Mason City fourteen below, and Sioux Falls twenty two below while hundreds of drivers struggled to start in the cold. Meanwhile 95 people attended the first night of swimming lessons at Le Mars Community junior high indoor pool, with 30 children and 15 adults signing up as 132 had shown interest by mail.

About 700 Iowa delegates will travel to Los Angeles for the 54th annual American Farm Bureau convention December 10 to 14. Nine Iowa delegates will attend the women's conference business session on December 11, led by Mrs Harlan Rowe of Le Mars. Delegations depart Des Moines for Hawaii on November 30 and charter flights carrying 453 Iowa attendees leave December 8 and 9, with others traveling by commercial flight or auto.
