Union Evangelistic Meetings Begin in LeGrand

Evangelistic services move to LeGrand at the Friends church starting Wednesday January 2 and will run nightly except Monday January 27. The union effort unites Christian and Friends churches with F. J. Thomas as evangelist and Prof. C. B. Brooks as chair director. Thomas, a former Chicago businessman, is an ordained clergyman with nineteen years in religious work including eight years in the regular pastorate and eleven in evangelistic service. Brooks, a noted song leader, brings a trained chorus leadership background to enhance the sacred music before the sermon.

Aunt Jo Richards dies after gall bladder op

Mrs Rebecca Joanna Richards known as Aunt Jo died at 8:50 Tuesday night in St Thomas hospital Marshalltown after a five week stay and an exhausting operation for gall bladder trouble. Born September 19 1850 near Dayton Ohio she moved to LeGrand at age ten and lived there most of her life. She was married June 92 1872 to Cyrus Richards and survived by her husband three daughters J Linn Noble Thermopolis Wyoming W W McAllister Waterloo and W M Gaunt LeGrand a brother J A North LeMars and sister Mrs Mary Van Credel Merrill. She belonged to the Christian church at LeGrand since age 13 and funeral is at LeGrand church Friday at 2 with the church open at 1 burial Pleasant Hill cemetery

Depot Safe Burglarized In Local Depots Night Breakin

Agent George Renbarger found the company safe at the depot broken into during the night and loose change about $2 in pennies taken. Burglars also raided the Montour depot till, indicating a systematic line-wide excursion. No clue as to who committed the theft.

Federal income tax officer to visit Marshall County in 1918

A notice from Collector Louis Murphy states a federal income tax officer will tour Marshall County from January 29 to March 1, visiting Marshalltown January 29 to February 14 and State Center February 15 to March 1. The officer will assist taxpayers at no cost, but returns must be filed by March 1, 1918. Estimated 1000 taxpayers exist in the county. penalties for late or absent returns can reach up to $1000. Residents outside the county may also visit to file.
