Nitrate contamination threatens Grandfield water project
Grandfield plans for March 20 bids on a storage tower and pump station may shift after the Oklahoma Health Department found nitrates in all eight city wells. One test reached 12 ppm, two above the state standard, with others at 10 or lower. Contamination likely from farm fertilizer could force abandonment of the current wells and prompt a costly switch to a lake or alternative holding ponds, while tests from the watershed are awaited.
