Coronado Evidence Found In Kansas Near Lyons
About 50 volunteer archaeologists backed by the Kansas Historical Society and the Kansas Anthropological Society report new finds near Lyons that may tie Coronado to Quivira era settlements. They uncovered five links of Spanish chain mail, grass or thatch housing remains, storage pits and possible clay-floor ruins, suggesting a thriving region with 1 000 to 2 000 lodges across three sites along Cow Creek and Smoky Hill River.
