Jail Fire in Tennessee Kills 42 Inmates and Visitors
A 16 year old youth admitted setting a Maury County Jail fire that killed 34 inmates and eight visitors. The suspect Andrew Zinmer is to be charged as an adult. Eight victims were visitors. 56 inmates were in the jail. 19 of the survivors were flown to Nashville hospitals.

City Replaces Old Waterlines in West Lawton Project
A $500,000 effort to replace deteriorated and high maintenance waterlines in west Lawton is underway and should finish by December. Begun in May, the project uses a community development block grant. Six people died in Oklahoma traffic crashes from Sunday into today raising the 1977 highway toll to 382, compared with 398 at the same point last year. Missouri couple Albert Hall and Minnie Hall died when their car ran under a semi on U.S. 69 near Wagoner, while three truck passengers were injured. A Tulsa minister, Rev. David R. Casey, 27, died in a stop sign collision in Tulsa. George Trombold, 29, of Norman, died in an Interstate 40 crash near Yukon. Sonia McGlothlin, 23, of Siloam Springs perished in a head on collision.
