A 34 year old Carlyle man Fillmore Young confessed to slaying Harold Smith and wife Arline near Lebanon Illinois. He led police to bodies hidden in wells 15 miles apart. Autopsies showed Smith died instantly and Arline lived some time after being shot. Young denied rape and said he did not know the couple.
