In Minneapolis the 85 year old American Benefit Association faces its end as state examiners seize records of the 200 remaining policyholders averaging 71. Insurance Commissioner Berton Heaton calls the company an anachronism and ensures assets of 100 000 to 200 000 are equitably divided among survivors while noting the firm has not written new policies since 1972 and most policyholders have died.
