Kansas faces two days of state cash reserves amid budget strains
The Wichita Eagle reports a Pew Charitable Trusts study finds Kansas could operate for only about two days using its fiscal year 2016 cash balance of 35 million dollars. It compares to an average of 29.2 days among states, highlighting tax cuts and economic lean times under Gov. Sam Brownback. The assessment notes declines in oil and agriculture, while officials defend savings in KPERS, roads, and education. The remark from Rep. Kathy Wolfe Moore calls the situation frightening.
