Bond weighs run for governor as GOP field grows

State Senator Dick Bond of Overland Park says he will decide this fall whether to seek the Republican nomination for governor, joining a field that includes Bill Graves Fred Kerr Gene Bicknell Rich Becker and Nestor Weigand. Bond aims to decide before winter while noting his life plans and potential base in Johnson Wyandotte Miami and Douglas counties. He cautions issues won t determine his choice preferring a personal commitment to a nine year term.

Ministers condemn center vandalism in Lawrence

Fumes force evacuation at Towne East Square Mall

In Wichita Emergency officials evacuated Towne East Square Mall for about two and a half hours after several people fell ill from unidentified fumes. About 18 people were treated for respiratory symptoms. no hospitalizations. Air handling units were shut and later restarted with no repeat odor. The mall reopened around 6 p.m.

Bonner Springs man claims Powerball prize in Topeka

Richard Carmitchel of Bonner Springs, a sheetmetal worker from Lawrence, claimed a $100,000 Powerball prize at the Kansas Lottery headquarters. He plans to celebrate with his wife and three children and place the remainder in an education trust. The ticket matched the Sept. 8 drawing.
