Pedestrian killed by train in East Lawrence
Lawrence police said a pedestrian was struck and killed by a westbound Burlington Northern Santa Fe train near Seventh and New York streets in East Lawrence. The incident occurred about 11 10 a.m. with the railroad cleared by 2 45 p.m. no further details were released.

Saturation patrol and DUI check lane report
Douglas County Sheriff’s Office conducted a countywide saturation patrol from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. stopping 52 vehicles and issuing 37 seat belt tickets and 16 speeding tickets. One outstanding warrant and one DUI arrest were made. A DUI check lane from 11:30 p.m. to 2:30 a.m. on East 23rd Street contacted 548 vehicles, with 32 drivers given field sobriety tests and five resulting in DUI arrests.

Eight burglary counts for 18 year old Lawrence man
An 18 year old Lawrence resident, Cody A. Barnes, faces eight charges in Douglas County District Court for July home burglaries. He is charged with four counts of aggravated burglary and four counts of theft for incidents on July 12, 15, 19 and 29. He was arrested after a police appeal for help locating him. He is co defendant with two other 18 year olds, Ronnie E. Taylor and Markcus T. Sanders, who were charged previously. In a separate report, a 20 year old man died from injuries in an April traffic crash near Lawrence. Dyllon Butrick of White Cloud passed away after organ donation.
