The Delaware Tribe of Indians owns a prime North Lawrence parcel bought in July and is pursuing federal land in trust for non gaming status. Officials say no casino plan now but trust path may shift to gaming later. governor Brownback cautioned against expanded gaming and urged community town hall in Lawrence.

KU Hospital Authority marks fifth anniversary progress noted
KU Hospital Authority marked its fifth anniversary as a non profit entity independent from the state and university medical center. CEO Bob Page, who began at the hospital in 1996, described the shift as a hinge on core patient care. The hospital rose from bottom national rankings to the 92nd percentile by 2013 and reduced patient mortality index from 1.14 in 1998 to 0.65 in 2013.

Endowment funds to KU rise to 119.4 million for 2013
The Kansas University Endowment said it provided 119.4 million to KU for fiscal year 2013 ending June 30, up slightly from 119.3 million last year. Most money came from donor-restricted funds with about 5 million from unrestricted sources. Funds aided student scholarships, faculty salaries, programs, research, library and museum acquisitions, and included 9.6 million for KU Hospital.
