West Middle School hosted Agriculture Secretary Dale Rodman and Education Commissioner Diane DeBacker to showcase the Farm-to-School program in Lawrence. The garden yielded over 10,000 pounds of food since 2010, with 1,650 pounds used in the cafeteria and the rest sold to Mercer, funds returning to the school. Nearby grade schools now share about 14,000 square feet of garden space, generating around $4,000 in income last year.
