Hearings Set for Burglaries in Leavenworth County

A 24 year old Robert D Lavery resident of 1722 Ohio lost control on a curve five miles west of here at 2 pm causing his 1970 model car to roll down a 25 foot cliff near railroad tracks. Prisoner Fails In Escape Try In Lawrence
A 19 year old Roy Barnes of Baldwin and a 16 year old boy were being taken to the Douglas County Jail for burglary inquiry when Barnes broke free at 11 15 am and fled north. A deputy sheriff fired once before Barnes was recaptured with Lawrence police and deputies aiding. Barnes had been held at Baldwin Junction Tavern on Oct 31 pending formal charges.
