A Viet Cong ambush west of Saigon killed 130 attackers after a combined ground and air assault by U S and Vietnamese forces. American and Vietnamese planes also struck the Viet Cong, while a separate coastal operation near Chu Lai yielded two Viet Cong deaths and 18 detentions with no Allied casualties. The first joint amphibious assault occurred with Col Thell Fisher in command. A new U S tactical fighter squadron arrived to strengthen air operations in Vietnam.

Two Local Car Crashes Cause $1050 In Damages
Damage estimated at 1050 resulted from two traffic accidents Wednesday. No injuries were reported. Lon Parsons of Raytown and Sharon McNish of Route 1 collided at North Second and Lyons around 1:25 PM. Earlier, three cars at 19th and Miss Sts involved drivers Gay L Black of Route 3 Pat Hagen of 612 La St and A S Floro of 1933 Learnard. Officers said Black and Hagen stopped in traffic awaiting a turn.
