Missouri Worker Killed When Big Machine Falls Off Highway
Henry J. Collie a 49 year old Missouri Pacific Railroad construction worker from Guion Arkansas was killed when a large earth moving machine toppled off Kansas 5 five miles south of Leavenworth. Hubert Beard another worker from Norfolk Arkansas was in the cab. the machine slid into a ditch and a tree sheared off Collie s cab. They had been en route from Kansas City to Oak Mills to assist a washout on the Kansas City Omaha line but were sent back. Beard said the machine traveled 20 to 25 mph on a 10 percent grade.
