Death closes his colorful career in Hollywood
James F. J. Archibald, 71, longtime war correspondent and Hollywood technical adviser, killed himself with a war relic revolver. He had survived 23 wars, collected war mementos, photographed figures from presidents to entertainers, and was involved in a 1915 world war spy scare linked to letters alleged to be for Germany. Archibald denied wrongdoing, saying the letters were personal. He had recently lived in Hollywood for 15 years and was born in Fredonia, New York.
