Ellsworth Speaks At Eudora Post Office Dedication

U S Rep Robert Ellsworth and A B Heiligman of the Post Office Department led the dedication of the new Eudora Post Office sponsored by the Eudora Lions Club. John Lenahan serves as acting postmaster. Ellsworth traced postal history noting Franklin as father of the U S system and cited mail service as a key government measure. The $ private funds financed site completion May 8, leased to government. The air conditioned building covers 1900 square feet with 445 boxes.

Local fire crews responded Friday at 7 07 p m to Jath and Iowa Streets where a car motor was ablaze causing heavy damage. The notice advertises the Journal-World subscription service with a summer address and phone number.

Douglas County GOP Women name new president

Mrs Lloyd Webster of Route 2 was appointed president of the Douglas County Republican Women's Club replacing Edythe Norman. Norman resigned to pursue the Republican nomination for county treasurer. The change is effective immediately with no other offices affected. Regular election will be after the general election in November.

Lawrence Art Guild Elects Officers at Meeting

The Lawrence Art Guild held its Thursday night meeting at Lawrence High School and elected Prof. Leland Miller as president, Mrs. Charles Radcliffe as vice president, Mrs. William McCauley as secretary, and James Neelley as treasurer. Miller also appointed Mrs. James Dykes, Byron Sneegas, and Mrs. Clifford Calvin to draft a constitution and by laws.

Five Persons Treated In Emergency Unit At Local Hospital

Five persons were treated in the emergency room of Lawrence Memorial Hospital Tuesday and Wednesday. Patients included six year old Patricia Brann for a head injury from a fall on a slippery slide, Dallas Dolan with a stitched left ear from a baseball injury, James Vequist a 12 year old with finger stitches from a razor blade, Karl Reynolds with an electrical burn on a right hand, and six year old Jary Sanders with a stitched forehead cut from hitting a table edge.

Pat Green Injured in Fall at Hashinger Hall Site

Pat Green a focal construction superintendent of 931 Crestline Dr was listed in fairly good condition at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a Friday morning fall at the Hashinger Hall dormitory construction site He sustained fractured vertebrae ribs and bones in his left foot with Friday status listed as fair.

Goff Helps In Tsh Show at Topeka State Hospital

Patients at Topeka State Hospital performed a Kansas University sponsored production of Thornton Wilder's The Happy Journey to Trenton and Camden. University Theatre director Lewin Goff organized the experimental little theater piece with patients handling most roles. The performances boosted patient morale by letting them act and read to entertain fellow patients.

City Deliberates Parking Plan and Lot Sites

City commissioners reviewed a parking meter fund with about 90 000 invested and 11 000 in cash plus 40 000 to 45 000 expected yearly. They discussed downtown lot sites between Vermont and New Hampshire and outside the two streets as storage or employee parking. A North Lawrence committee plans a 5 to 10 acre park site with recommendations due in a month.

Child Hurt in Accident In Lawrence Two Car Collision

A one year old Lawrence boy suffered minor injuries in a two car accident Friday afternoon near 25th and Iown Streets. Stewart Newlin, son of Mr and Mrs John R Newlin, sustained a bump over the right eye and a tongue cut while riding with his mother Barbara S Newlin 21. The other driver was Jerry E Sinor 27 of 2436 Red Bud. Damages to both cars were about 325 dollars.

Four blasts rocked the Bernauerstrasse area early today as a six foot hole formed in the Berlin Wall.
