Green Is Hurt In Shaft Fall At Hashinger Hall

Pat Green 38 longtime local construction supervisor was seriously injured after falling about 15 feet into an elevator shaft at Hashinger Hall the new KU dormitory on Iowa Street near Lewis and Templin halls. He sustained multiple fractures and bruises but no internal injuries and remained conscious.

Cost of Living Sets a Record

Washington AP reports consumer prices rose two tenths of a percent in April, marking a third straight monthly increase and a seven tenths rise so far in 1962. The Labor Department index reached 105.2, 1.3 higher than a year ago, with wage impacts for auto and aerospace industries and transit workers. Robert J. Myers downplayed inflation risk, predicting another rise in May but declines later in summer. Main increases were fruits and vegetables, used cars, gasoline, movie admissions, and medical care services. declines noted in poultry, eggs, milk, fuel, and furnishings. Factory family of four earned $85.53 after taxes, near December’s record. Over 70 percent of banana exports come from tropical Americas.

Broiler and Garden Show Set for Douglas County

The 4-H sponsored event at the Douglas County Fairgrounds features a new garden division and a four county broiler show. Gary Brink chairs the host committee, with judging from 10:30 to noon and viewing until 3 pm after lunch. Wescoe’s Busy Week Ahead Before KU Commencement

Kansas University Chancellor W Clarke Wescoe plans a dense schedule through June 24. Haskell Named National Historical Landmark in Kansas

Merrill J. Mattes of the National Park Service presented a plaque designating Haskell as a registered National Historical Landmark. Larned and Fort Leavenworth join Kansas as other landmarks, with Haskell the only school west of the Mississippi to renew this recognition.

Burglars Strike Thrice In Leavenworth Burglaries

In Leavenworth, burglars hit three locations Thursday night. About 1500 dollars was taken from one store, another was broken into, and a third was forced to flee after tear gas. Police believe the same trio committed all three crimes.

Lawrence area teachers win Olathe Jaycees Community Service awards

Two former Lawrence and KU educated teachers, Mrs Benny Bodyston and Mrs Dick Laptad, were named Community Service award recipients by the Olathe Junior Chamber of Commerce at a Jaycee banquet. Bodyston is a 1961 KU graduate teaching first grade, Laptad a 1956 KU graduate and high school physical education instructor. Post Office Dedication Slated in Eudora

Dedication services for the Eudora Post Office are set for 2 p m Saturday with Rep. Robert Ellsworth and A B Heiligman of the Post Office Department as principal speakers. Lions Club sponsors the ceremony with Dr. Leo Lauber as master of ceremonies. Edgar Grosdidier is Lions Club president. John Lenahan serves as acting postmaster for the modern air conditioned building completed in May featuring 1 900 square feet interior and 445 boxes with paved areas for parking and vehicle movement.

Kennedy study taxes revisions eyed by administration

President Kennedy officials indicate a broad review of the tax system. Chairman Walter Heller said on NBC that tax reductions and major reforms are possible, with reports that Congress may see a sweeping package next year. Top bracket could drop from 91 percent toward 65, bottom rate from 20 percent toward 16 or 18 percent.

Aurora 7 Flight Highlights Risk and Rescue Milestone
