The University of Kansas announces Sarah Waters will become director of KU Student Housing, taking over when Diana Robertson retires this summer. Waters, former Bowling Green State University residence life chief since 2010, will start July 17. She oversaw a campus housing program similar in scale and led capital projects adding 1,700 beds. KU’s Central District project, valued at 350 million, will fund two new facilities. Robertson retires June 27 after 18 years.

Baldwin City officials expect to cancel an Aug 1 referendum on a half cent sales tax to fund a community center if a private donor does not commit soon. The school board denied a request for 1 mill of taxing authority to retire a 3.95 million bond, pressuring the city to drop the plan.
A former office manager for a Lawrence property company was sentenced to two years in prison and ordered to pay restitution for theft spanning eight years. The sentence was announced in a news release by Tom Beall, U.S. attorney for the District of Kansas.
Candy Gunderson, 45, pleaded not guilty to one count of interstate transportation of stolen funds in July 2016. She admitted stealing from Garber Enterprises between 2007 and 2015. On Tuesday she received two years in prison and more than 485000 dollars in restitution. She worked for Garber Enterprises and stole money by depositing checks to her accounts, issuing forged checks, and misusing company funds for work on her rental properties.
