Local man injured after truck overturns near Callery Corner

A 23-year-old Lawrence man, Robert Lewis of 820 North 2nd Street, suffered minor injuries when his Woods Lumber Co truck overturned on Lakeview Road about 10 a.m. today. He was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital for X rays to determine injury extent. officials said he did not appear seriously hurt. No damage estimate was provided for the vehicle.

Bottom-Less Blonde Menace to Navigators in Miami Beach

Nadia Pobshushka a 22 year old Canadian was described as a menace to navigation in municipal court. She was fined 50 dollars for indecent exposure after sunbathing nude on Government Cut jetty. Police testimony cited boats jamming near rocks and sightseers crowding the cut. Pobshushka said she sunbathed for four years there to even out her tan.

Seven Area High Schools Schedule Baccalaureate Services

Seven area high schools plan Sunday baccalaureate services followed by commencement. Baldwin High School hosts 8 p.m. in the gym with Rev. Carl Whitacre speaking on What Do I Expect of Me. Linwood High School 10:30 a.m. service in the auditorium by Rev. Lewis Slearne. Other speakers include Dr. James Doty at Baldwin Methodist Church and Rev. John Bower at Overbrook High School. Oskaloosa Perry McLouth and others hold 8 p.m. services with pastors from local churches delivering sermons.

Contest Forming In Viet Election

Saigon reports that Chief of State Nguyen Van Thieu will oppose Premier Nguyen Cao Ky for the presidency in September elections. A Thieu spokesman said the move turns the race into a free for all. The ruling junta backed Ky 40-2 in an informal note last Sunday.

The United Nations General Assembly approved a plan to set up a council to take over Southwest Africa from South Africa and guide it to independence. Doctors finish flight to Paris in under twenty hours

Two American doctors, Dr. Francis Sommer and Dr. John Rieger, flew single engine Beechcraft from New York to near Paris arriving at Cormeille Airport at 8 45 a m after about 20 hours in the air. They aimed for Le Bourget but diverted due to air show traffic and planned to abandon the plane at the small airport.

KU pops concert slated for Sunday in Hoch Auditorium

Lawrence students and residents will attend the Kansas University pops concert at 3 30 p m Sunday in Hoch Auditorium. The KU Brass Choir KU Orchestra KU Chamber Choir KU Concert Choir and KU Concert Chorale perform folk spirituals jazz and popular tunes with root beer and pretzels served at tables.

Escapee Tarpy Captured After Morning Standoff

Arthur L. Tarpy, a 34 year old escapee from the Kansas State Penitentiary honor farm, was captured at 929 Pa. St Lawrence by six officers after a dawn home raid. A scuffle with his brother in law left Tarpy with a hand injury. He was treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital, jailed locally, and to be picked up by Lansing authorities.

Tire and wheel stolen from car near Avalon Road

Don Omer reported the theft of a tire and wheel from his car parked near 909 Avalon Rd. The item was valued at $70 and disappeared sometime during the week. Police investigated as part of a local theft report.
