U S Planes Hit Hanoi Amid Buddha's Birthday Cease Fire

U S planes ignored the cease fire and bombed Hanoi. Pilots claimed a MIG kill. Soviet Tass reported massive bombings. CTK said Hanoi lost electricity and water after a power plant strike. Col. Robin Olds shot down his third and fourth MIGs, becoming the leading MIG killer of the war.

Youth-Adult Communication Gaps Highlighted by Doug Weaver

Doug Weaver former Kansas State football coach and current KU law student told a Rotary luncheon at Eldridge Hotel that adults fail youths by not speaking their language and omitting reasons for rules. He stressed the need for honest dialogue and timely communication to guide ages 17 to 21.

End of Haskell Institute classes and local theater noting

Heard in Lawrence Today marks the last day of regular Haskell Institute classes with final exams set for Tuesday and many students to depart Wednesday. Titus Leaves KU For Governmental Personnel Study

Kansas University associate professor James E. Titus takes a leave to serve as research director for a government commission. The panel will assess federal laws on political activity by government officers and report to the President and Congress after the new year. Titus has prior service in state and federal departments and sits on a bipartisan mix of lawmakers and private citizens.

McMullan Back On Short Visit

Kansas University graduate Jim McMullan returned to Lawrence and announced plans for a winter television series titled Risk with a pilot film showing three young lawyers starting out in the practice. Freight trains collide in Manhattan yard killing seven

In upper Manhattan two freight trains collided head on in a yard. Fire swept wreckage and police feared more bodies. Fire Department said at least a dozen injured.

Oskaloosa Residents Reject Bond Issue for School Expansion

Voters in Oskaloosa defeated a bond issue 260 to 211 to finance additional elementary school facilities. Principal Ross Bateman said the district has no plans after the defeat, affecting 315 pupils in crowded, aging spaces. The 18 year old building houses grades 1–4 with trailers and a single steel classroom. The district expects enrollment to hold. Next board meeting is in June.

Easton Man Killed in Weekend Creek-Bridge Accident

Miles L. Purser a 26 year old Easton resident was found dead beside his car submerged near a Wellman Road bridge about 24% miles west of McLouth. He was last seen Sunday morning in Lawrence at a fertilizer plant where he worked. Authorities say the car left the road, crossed the creek about 30 feet, and struck the creek bank. death is believed to be at the scene.

KU Freshman Receives Bronze Star for Vietnam Service

John W.
