KU ROTC commissions nineteen new officers at ceremony
Nineteen Kansas University students were commissioned as armed forces officers at Swarthout Recital Hall. Maj. Gen. Jerry Rutherford administered the oath as part of ROTC ceremonies. Participants include graduates from KU College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, School of Engineering, and College of Business.

KU Researchers Begin Stream Health Study Near Borders
Researchers from the Kansas Biological Survey at KU started a three year study sampling six streams near the Kansas Nebraska border to assess health across Kansas Nebraska and Iowa. Field crews collect fish and invertebrates water samples and habitat data for analysis funded by the EPA.

Four KU students in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences received 1993-9% Nancy Miller Martin Memorial Scholarships from KU’s Speech Language Hearing Sciences and Disorders. The awards honor Nancy Miller Martin, KU alumna, and were funded in 1975 by Dr. and Mrs. D. M. Miller of Parsons.

Painting Returns Home To Spencer Museum Of Art
Former KU professor Albert Bloch's 1949 oil The Bridge returns to Kansas after donor Ann Murray Elliot's sister notes it belongs with the Bloch collection. Elliott died last month. the work joins two other Bloch paintings at the Spencer Museum in Lawrence as Andrea Norvis notes the piece shows Bloch's mid career evolution with mystical 40s color blends.
