County could gain control of aging council board
Douglas County Planning Council backs a plan to replace the aging council board with a 10 member panel split evenly between City of Lawrence and county appointees. The move aims to curb over 200000 dollars in county funds, with commissioners hinting at withholding a one mill levy unless the board agrees. Wayne Bly proposes 12 members with seven city and five county appointees.

Regents set to approve tenure and grievance policies
Kansas Board of Regents expected this week to adopt two policies from the Council of Presidents. One would require board approval of faculty tenure aligned with promotions, limited to recommending institutions. The other would designate a chief administrator led office to handle misconduct complaints by non employees, with an appeals path to a selected committee and final review by the chief administrator. Also on the agenda, a rise in KU student activity fees, summer session adjustments, and a plan to fund women’s and non revenue sports through higher enrollments. A separate item covers billing system improvements at KU Medical Center in Kansas City Kansas, cited by legislators for late bill submissions.
