Miller Is Cleared In Burglary Trial
A District Court jury returned a not guilty verdict in the second degree burglary trial of Kenneth L. Miller, 31, of 135 N. 2nd St. He faced charges tied to a Shaw Lumber Co. burglary on January 3. Co-defendant Sherman Lightle of Kansas City Kansas pleaded guilty and was sentenced to the state penitentiary. Herman Weathers, also of Kansas City Kansas, was sentenced last month from Linn County for an earlier crime. The jury heard nine prosecution witnesses. the defense offered none. The panel requested rereading portions of testimony and retired for instructions before delivering the verdict. Foreman Richard Hack led the group with other jurors listed in court records. In separate cases, three defendants pled guilty and received paroles. two narcotics possessors were paroled on bonds of 1,000 each, while William Lyons admitted DUI and transporting an open bottle, receiving a two-year parole after a 30-day jail term and a $50 fine.

A Eudora mother Mrs Wayne Grindel and her two daughters aged one and four escaped serious injury when their car overturned near the Wakarusa Bridge on K10 west of Eudora about 11 this morning. All occupants suffered only minor cuts and bruises and were not hospitalized. The car was demolished and Mrs Grindel said loss of control occurred as she reached for her youngest child.
