Reports from Amsterdam Brussels and Rotterdam declare German blitz against the Low Countries halted near the frontier. Dutch and Belgian troops claim stopping several hundred yards inside Belgium and near Venlo, Delfzijl and Rotterdam.
Berlin radio reports Germany's ambassador to Italy Hans-Georg Viktor von Mackensen visited Premier Mussolini in Rome today confirming high level talks between Berlin and Rome on wartime strategy and alignment.
London May 10 Winston Churchill assumed the office of prime minister succeeding Neville Chamberlain who resigned this evening The veteran leader will direct Britain’s war effort as western Europe faced renewed aggression Churchill aged 65 has held the first lord of the admiralty post since the war began and had previously led during World War I Chamberlain announced his resignation and the new administration began arranging its final structure.
Winston Churchill succeeds Neville Chamberlain as prime minister and war leader. He thanks ministers for their loyalty during arduous days and pledges unity across parties to face the crisis.
Paris reports Premier Reynaud announced French and British troops crossed into Belgium early today to oppose German forces. General Game lin warned of a death struggle as Reynaud reshuffled his cabinet adding two extreme rightists Louis Marie and Jean Ybarneraray and a large allied battle looms.
General Maurice Gamelin told Allied troops in Paris that Germany has begun a fight to the death against France and its allies. He urged courage energy and confidence as the attack commenced this morning after being foreseen since October.
