Soldier Held for Theft Probe at Bay Service Station
A 19 year old soldier from Ft. Riley is held in Douglas County jail for burglary larceny and loitering after being seen near the Bay Service Station at 23rd and Quidahl Rd in Lawrence. No charges or bond set pending further investigation. Loot totaled 63.15 dollars. Nine other thefts were reported weekend.

Accident Victim Moved to Kansas City Hospital
Donald Hahn of Eudora Kansas City Kan was injured in a 3:45 p.m. Sunday crash at Walnut Street and K-10 when his motorcycle was struck by a car that fled the scene. He suffered a concussion and shoulder injury and was moved from Lawrence Memorial Hospital to Bethany Hospital in Kansas City. The Kansas Highway Patrol identified his condition as serious. Hahn is a brother of W. C. Hahn of Lawrence. Age not available.

Two Hurt In Saturday Traffic Clash In Lawrence
Curtis White and Connie Vervynck were treated at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after a collision at 7th and Vt Streets when White turned left into Dale Hess’s car. Damages were $300 and $250 respectively. Police logged 12 weekend accidents with varied injuries and costs.

Ship Named for Holt Prepares for Sailing
The destroyer escort USS Harold E. Holt, named for the late Australian prime minister, is being equipped for duty in San Pedro California. Holt died December 17 1967 when swept out to sea near Melbourne. The 4000 ton ship will carry 17 officers and 213 men and is designed for anti submarine warfare.
