City weighing background checks for Lawrence taxi drivers
Lawrence city commissioners discussed requiring criminal background checks for taxi drivers to obtain or renew licenses. A proposed ordinance would bar licenses for recent felonies of dishonesty or crimes against a person, DUI, driving with a suspended license, or outstanding warrants. The measure was sent back to staff for more study and rules on company size and operations before a vote, with Ground Transportation Services urging rules on minimum company size and business premises.
