Health advocate Erica Anderson urges Lawrence to extend its indoor smoking ban to outdoor areas. She cites city parks and sidelines at youth games and smokeless e cigarettes as targets for regulation while noting spectators at outdoor events may be prohibited from smoking on city property.
Bert Nash Community Mental Health Center chief executive David Johnson plans to retire on August 1 2016 after 14 years in the post. He will remain until a new crisis intervention center breaks ground and will move to Iowa with his wife to be closer to family. Johnson, 63, earned a bachelor’s from the University of Iowa and a master’s in health services administration at the University of St. Francis.

The mother of Archie Robinsons children testified at his first degree murder trial that Robinson said he was involved in Patrick Roberts shooting death because he was being greedy. Prosecutors say Robinson and Dustin Walker kicked in Roberts Lawrence home on March 8 2014 to steal money or marijuana and shot him when he didnt comply.
The Lawrence High boys basketball team moved into the Class 6A state semifinals with a vitória over Wichita South on Wednesday. The win secures a spot in the semifinal round as the tournament progresses.
