House advances bill limiting adult businesses in Kansas
The Kansas House advanced the Community Defense Act restricting adult businesses including strip clubs and sex toy stores on a voice vote. The proposal would ban operations from midnight to 6 am and bar new venues within 1,000 feet of existing similar sites or schools, libraries, day care centers or houses of worship. Supporters cite protecting communities from blight and crime while critics call for local control and smaller government.
