Siren clears route for fires at Eighth and Massachusetts
A large electric siren will be placed at Eighth and Massachusetts to warn drivers and pedestrians of approaching fire department apparatus. It will be connected to a switchboard at the fire department HQ. If an alarm sends units east, north, or south, the siren will be sounded until the apparatus clears the corner. Workmen install wiring at city hall. the siren ordered from Kansas Electric Power Co. and will be installed on arrival. Officials hope to expand with more sirens at mass transit routes if trials prove successful.
