Realtors clash with city on fair housing ordinance in Lawrence

A Lawrence City Commission hearing featured Miller and the Realtors group opposing a proposed fair housing ordinance. The plan, supported by KU coach Ted Owens and ex-city attorney Charles Stough, was sent to staff for study with a possible decision next Tuesday.

Kansas teachers visit Lawrence for KABIE Study Tour

Forty Kansas teachers plus a foreign exchange student arrive Thursday for the 18th annual KABIE Study Tour in Lawrence. They will tour Hallmark, Centron, KU and Haskell Institute, with a dinner at Eldridge Hotel and a two week, 2 000 mile itinerary visiting 73 sites across 32 cities. The trip is led by Ray Culbertson with sponsorship from the state Chamber of Commerce, the State Teachers Association, and Kansas State Teachers College of Emporia.

Travel bans lifted on Israel and four Arab states

The State Department lifted the June 5 travel restriction for Israel and four Arab countries and kept limits on nine others including Egypt. Americans may travel to Israel Morocco Tunisia Saudi Arabia and Kuwait without restrictions, according to press officer Karl Barth.

Weather Bureau Reports On State Rivers and Flood Crest Timelines

AP reports from Topeka that the Weather Bureau issued a Kansas river flood outlook with multiple crests. Rivers including Marais des Cygnes Osawatomie Delaware Valley Falls and Stranger Creek show crests ranging from mid 20s to upper 30s feet with varying tonight Thursday and Friday timing. Levees are expected to hold but flooding may exceed protective works in some sections.

Motorcyclist Hurt After Collision at North Lawrence Intersection

A collision between a car and a motorcycle at 2nd and Elm in North Lawrence sent Archie Grayson, 22, to Lawrence Memorial Hospital with possible fractures and cuts. The driver, Carson Ogle, uninjured, left turned onto Elm. minor damage to the motorcycle and dented car door were reported.
