Former Resident A H King Visiting in Lawrence
A H King of Mission Texas visits Lawrence for a few days as guest of his sister Mrs W H Smith living at 19 Connecticut Street. He traveled here from Kansas City where he stayed with his daughter-in-law Mrs L A Ringel. King, a former Douglas County schoolteacher, served as County Superintendent and later held roles at Salina Wesleyan University including President. An old-timer remembers his campaign for the post, noting his neat clothes impressed voters and contrasted with a poorer outfit used by a rival candidate. A nostalgic tale of a county race ends with a recipe for crushed raspberry gelatine dessert and raspberry parfaits prepared by Mrs Viola Glenn of Lecompton, Kan.
