Nitrates Not a Major Air Pollution Source
Agriculture Undersecretary J. Phil Campbell told fertilizer industry leaders that evidence linking nitrogen chemicals used by farmers to air pollution is very meager. He said environmental pollution is real but largely stems from pesticide use and plant nutrients, noting studies show groundwater nitrate is not tied to land-applied fertilizer, with some contribution from livestock feedlots.
