Water Projects Seek $66.8 Million in River Valley Upgrades
A House subcommittee was asked to approve $66.787 million for water projects in the Mississippi, Missouri and Arkansas river valleys for the fiscal year beginning July 1. The requests, from the Mississippi Valley Association and the McArk Basins group, exceed Nixon's budget by about $17.5 million and current year appropriations by about $16.9 million. Main items include $9 million for Missouri River channel work Sioux City to the mouth, plus $4.5 million over budget for a planned 9 foot channel. Also sought are $3.8 million for Perry Reservoir and $2 million for Clinton Reservoir in the Kansas River basin.

Janet R. Baird 24 of Prairie Village complained of minor injuries after her westbound car hit a parked gasoline tanker and then another vehicle, pushing it into Glen Miller Auto Service garage at 1231 East 23rd Street. Police cited $1,300, $95, $425 and $200 in damages.

Ship Survivors Head to Homes After Evans Collision
Three quarters of the 153 survivors of the destroyer Frank E. Evans arrived in Long Beach California by plane and headed home. About two dozen families welcomed them while Navy buses carried others away. Forty three survivors remained in the Philippines for injuries or to testify in the investigation of the Evans Melbourne collision.
