FBI and police pursue all avenues after $113,200 in cash vanishes from an armored truck at the Bank of America Slauson avenue branch in Los Angeles. Deliverymen Weiss and Kitchen took a 64 hour route with five unguarded stops. no robbery found. Insurance through FDIC.
A World War II B24 bomber with nine crew members was found buried in Libyan desert sands 380 miles south of Benghazi. The plane remains largely intact though the tail is broken, the radio works, and no crew bodies or records are recovered. Pentagon had identified the aircraft, notified next of kin in 1943, and warant details show all nine families were contacted in 1943 and again in 1946. The U.S. Air Force plans further examination after aerial photos and on-site evaluation.
In Geneva Andrei Gromyko and the foreign ministers of the United States Britain and France held two hour talks on the future of Berlin. Officials said they made no progress with Gromyko demanding withdrawal of Western occupation rights in West Berlin. A secret session at Selwyn Lloyds residence followed as Western officials kept hopes low for immediate progress.

Columbus Haddix, a UMW member, was arrested on a shooting with intent to kill warrant as dynamite attacks and gunfire plague nonunion coal ops.
In Prince Albert Saskatchewan AP reports Prime Minister John Diefenbaker received a message from President Eisenhower that was bounced off the moon. He prepared a reply that may follow a similar route back to the President.
Four Republican finance council members in Topeka questioned if emergency spending for the State Grain Department can be approved without a session. They met informally, approved a $68 119 allocation, and then tackled other long pending items. Governor Docking argues council oversteps executive and legislative powers.
Sharon O Neal, 18, of Kansas City wins the Miss Kansas title at Pratt and plans to enroll at Kansas University in speech and drama. She earns a 1000 scholarship and will represent Kansas in the Miss America contest. Finalists included Barbara Mabry and Barbara David among others. Gov. Docking crowns the winner.
On Omaha Beach and at St Laurent American Cemetery ceremonies honor soldiers sailors and airmen who died on D-Day. Wreaths are laid 9 386 graves at St Laurent plus 1 557 names on the Wall of the Missing. The 30 mile coast hosts French American and British services amid war ruins and quiet beaches.
East German Communist official Gerhart Eisler warned West Berlin could be blockaded if West Germany proceeds with its presidential election in the city. He wrote in Berliner Zeitung that East German workers would cut all transport into West Berlin during Bundestag meetings in the city, a move tied to Bonn’s plan to hold the election in West Berlin as a symbol of Berlin’s status.
Konrad Adenauer retreated to his Rhine Valley home to weather a new blow to his decision to stay on as chancellor. The West German press led the criticism with foreign outlets joining in, labeling his move a black day and comparing him to dictatorial leaders.

Lawrence Planning Department launches a door to door survey of housing conditions led by KU graduate student Larry Edwards with city planner Bob Kipp. About 7 500 to 10 000 units will be checked for cooking facilities lighting sinks and sanitation to aid urban renewal planning.
