U S District Judge Roy W Harper sentenced four men to five years and Dorothy Forest to three years for conspiring to advocate overthrow of the government by force. Vietminh Make Two Bloodier Gains Near Hanoi
In the Hanoi delta area Vietminh rebels scored two bloody successes. They cut French lifelines along the Haiphong to Hanoi route and overran a Roman Catholic seminary turned into a battleground where hundreds died in hand to hand combat. The Cho Moi garrison of 60 resisted as 3,000 Vietminh moved from Quanphungha and forced a seven hour stand by 1,000 Vietnamese and Catholic militiamen before collapse.

South Winds Lift Kansas Temperature To Normal Levels
Strong southerly winds are forecast to raise temperatures across Kansas. Highs are expected from 61 at Concordia to 69 at Garden City, with 80 to 85 in some areas after overnight lows in the 50s. Dale Mitchell in critical but improved condition after shooting
Dale Eugene Mitchell, 20, of Tennessee, was listed as critical but improved at Lawrence Memorial Hospital after an operation for injuries from a police shooting. General Frank McCoy Dies at 79 Veteran of Pearl Harbor Inquiry

Lawrence Building Permits Surpass 1953 Total in Five Months
Building permits in Lawrence this year total $2,054,165 through May, far above the $1,833,854 for all of 1953.
