Congress Briefed Closely to Avoid Future Complaint
Washington AP report says the Johnson administration seeks tight congressional briefing on the Middle East crisis to prevent post hoc complaints. Secretary Rusk and Defense Chief McNamara briefed Senate and House leaders on efforts toward a peaceful Arab Israeli dispute and no plan to challenge Egypt’s blockade of the Gulf of Aqaba. The briefing followed criticism over Vietnam policy including the Tonkin resolution and its military escalation.
