Airlift Planned To Get Americans Out Of Nigeria

The U S Embassy plans a Saturday airlift to evacuate about 700 Americans from eastern Nigeria as conflict looms between Ojukwu’s Biafra and Gowon’s central government. Evacuees include elderly, children and pregnant women from Port Harcourt and other eastern areas.

Du Pont Plant Receives Safety Certificates

The Tecumseh Du Pont plant earned safety certificates from the Manufacturing Chemists Association Inc. and the National Safety Council for 1966 records. It operated Aug 27 1965 to Dec 31 1966 injury free, totaling 1 614 447 hours. Through May 1967 it logged over two million injury free hours.

Six Indicted On Pentagon Electronics Stock Rigging

A federal grand jury indicted four Chicagoans and two New Yorkers on conspiracy and price rigging of Pentagon Electronics Corp stock on the American Stock Exchange in 1966. Defendants include Os born Andreas of Chicago and six others. charges allege artificial price elevation and coordinated sales and purchases totaling about 320000 shares. The firm was Hammond Indiana based with prior Chicago ties.

Alumni Directors election tally tops 6200 ballots

A record high 6 200 ballots were cast in the Kansas University Alumni Association board of directors election. Nominees include Mrs Mary Beth Dodge Engleman Salina August Lauterbach Colby Dr Russell Maxfield Garden City John Oakson Shawnee Mission Terry Relihan Smith Center and George Trombold Jr Wichita Three will be elected to replace Cram Wagstaff and Winter with Learned retiring as former association president and Phillips Petroleum CEO.

Waste Disposal Doctoral Program Funded at KU

A federal grant of 38,050 from the Public Health Service funds a doctoral program in pollution free solid waste disposal at Kansas University. Dr. Ross E. McKinney, KU Civil Engineering chair, will direct the program, making KU the first university to offer this degree. The effort addresses personnel shortages and advanced disposal techniques to curb waterway pollution.

Dread Supper Tickets Still Available at KU Union

Five Die In Colby Wreck Near Farm Road Intersection

Five people perished when two cars collided at a northwest Kansas intersection 13 miles south of Colby at 8 55 a m. The dead include Emory Kyner 47 of Sharon Springs and his 11 year old son David Dennis McNeal 14 and Leland Heyl 11 also from Sharon Springs and George M Budge 75 of Brewster, driver of the second vehicle Only the other car's occupant survived.

KU Group in Seminar

Three Kansas University international students will attend evaluation seminars this summer. Christopher Chi from Hong Kong will join the 11th summer crossroads program in Colorado Springs from June 11 to 17. Anita Herzfeld of Argentina and Rab Malik of Pakistan will participate in the Williamsburg International Assembly in Virginia from June 1 to 14.

Jail Escapee Fry Seen Near Leavenworth Dump

Douglas County reports Allen Wayne Fry 21 who escaped March 18 from the county jail was spotted days ago at a Leavenworth dump. Fry, a Leavenworth resident, is charged with the January 1 armed robbery of a North Lawrence service station. The Sheriff's Office has alerted the FBI and is pursuing the lead.

Lynn Anderson Named Trust Officer At First National Bank

Lynn L. Anderson of Hutchinson has been named trust officer of the First National Bank of Lawrence. Warren Rhodes, bank president, announced the appointment stating Anderson brings an outstanding record and a growing trust department to the bank. Anderson, 28, is a 1961 KU business graduate and 1964 KU Law LL B holder with multiple honors and leadership roles. He has worked at the Hutchinson law firm Martin dell Carey Hunter and Dunn since July 1964 and previously served as assistant city attorney for Hutchinson. He clerked at the Lawrence Police Court from 1963 to 1964. He and his wife LaFaun, a 1960 KU graduate, have one child. Mrs. Anderson taught at Central Junior High School before moving to Hutchinson.

Kansas University Holds Final Exams and Commencement Plans

Heard in Lawrence Today the last day of final examinations at Kansas University. Faculty will submit grade reports Friday. Baccalaureate services start 7 30 p.m. Sunday at Memorial Stadium or Allen Fieldhouse. Commencement begins 7 30 p.m. Monday at the Stadium or Fieldhouse. Summer session runs June 12 to August 5.

U S armored units struck into a vast bunker complex near Quang Ngai Province after a Navy rocket barrage opened the area. The operation followed record U S casualties and heavy air losses in May, with the coastal complex described as housing hundreds of defenders and extending over a mile of trenches.
