City budget trims event space and parking garage funding
The CIP is reviewed yearly as part of the budget process with $15 million cut for an Indoor Aquatic Center event space and $2 million removed for a downtown parking garage. The 2019 budget keeps the mill levy flat at 33.279 mills while raising water, sewer and storm water rates. Utilities may cost the typical household about $58 more annually and total city services rise roughly 4 percent. The commission reallocates a $2.25 million 2018 general fund surplus to the capital improvement reserve fund and affordable housing trust, with $800,000 for sidewalk hazard mitigation and $200,000 for city sidewalk repairs. Maximum spending authority is set at $280.4 million, including the budget and reserves, with a public hearing August 7.
