Douglas County commissioners will ask voters in November to fund a behavioral health campus and expanded programming. They have not chosen a funding mechanism yet. The plan follows voters’ May rejection of Proposition 1 which would have funded the campus and services via a half cent sales tax and jail expansion.
In Douglas County District Court on Wednesday, Eudora Fire Chief Ken Keller demonstrated CPR on a baby mannequin to show what he did as the first responder to a September 29, 2016, infant death. The trial of Carrady M. Buchhor, 44, of Eudora, centers on Oliver Ortiz in a daycare incident.
The Kansas Turnpike Authority announced on Wednesday that tolls will rise across the board starting October 1 to fund safety improvements and modernization. The move follows the board's approval of a $145 million budget for the current fiscal year. Passenger car tolls with a K-TAG or similar device will increase by about 5 percent.
