New Millennium Wind Energy will build its first manufacturing plant in the Kansas Logistics Park near Newton. The Colorado company aims for about 70 jobs in year one and 300 more later, producing 35 by 28 foot rooftop turbines. Operations expected to start by mid 2012 with Gov. Brownback present.
A bustling Saturday schedule lists the Downtown Farmers Market and multiple activities across Lawrence. Highlights include seven a.m. runs at Red Dog's Dog Days, a 9 a.m. bike ride at Rotary Arboretum, a 10 a.m. horticulture talk by Jennifer Smith, a 10 a.m. opening and 10:30 a.m. dedication for KU Center for Design Research, and family friendly events at The Doghouse and Eudora Medicalodges. Recitals at Bauistian Theater and performances by The Rackatees Baby Boomers and The Mudstomp Monday fill the late evening, with bowling at Royal Crest Lanes and karaoke at The Jaz late night.
The ITYM Summer Music Academy gathers top young pianists at KU each July. Winners announced at Spooner Hall with Anna Han, Jonathan Mamora, and Yang mingtian Zhao. Concert starts 2:30 p.m. Tickets cost 10 dollars for adults and seniors.
