Kaw River Flood of 1951 Threatens North Lawrence
Aerials show North Lawrence submerged as the Kaw River crested at 30.42 feet on Black Friday July 13 1951. 4.37 inches of rain in 30 hours burst dikes, evacuating 2,500 residents. North Lawrence bore the worst damage though no lives were lost. losses estimated up to 5 million dollars while South Lawrence also saw severe flooding.
