Union protests at Ninth and New Hampshire project
Union members protested a Wichita project at Ninth and New Hampshire, criticizing Drywall Systems for paying wages well below the local standard of about 32 dollars with benefits. The Carpenters' Union blamed First Management for hiring the low wage firm, while First Management said the dispute is with Drywall Systems and that the project is nonunion and not required to use union subcontractors.

National group calls for cutting Kansas arts funding
Americans for the Arts urges NEA to withhold federal funding from Kansas after Gov. Brownback eliminated the state Arts Commission. The group argues federal dollars should only flow to states with a funded arts agency, while Kansas faces potential loss of about 1.2 million yearly in NEA support. The administration maintains private backing will fill gaps and keep arts funding.
